Site Council

The Montessori Borealis site council is a group of parents, teachers, AMP students, and community members formed to advise school administration on various issues related to the Montessori program.  It provides an opportunity for parents and teachers to learn about issues facing the school, and to have a voice in decision-making.  Issues that the site council discusses or participates in include facility issues, school safety issues, program enhancements, or the hiring of new teachers.

Meetings are generally held on the 3rd Monday of each month, at 5:45 pm in the AMP classroom.  They are open to the public, and all families are welcome to attend.  Feel free to contact a site council member with questions or concerns.  A copy of the site council bylaws can be found here.  Dates for upcoming Site Council meetings are shown on the event calendar.

In addition, the Montessori teachers rotate among themselves as representatives to the site council.

We are currently looking for a member of the Juneau community to fill the "Public Member" seat on the site council.  This position is designed for someone who is not otherwise affiliated with the Montessori community but who has an interest in helping the program achieve the school district's goals and meet the needs of our students.  Examples of potential public members include Harborview, Yaakoosge, or DZ Site Council members, or leaders of a community or group that is currently underrepresented in the program.  Anyone interested in the public member seat should contact Stephanie Allison (site council President).
